Ready for arrival in summer of 2008 as a 2009 model product, the Corvette ZR-1 represents the ultimate Corvette of the Corvette world! With the main objective to produce a split-personality car that is domesticated for the road yet a fierce track car, the ZR-1 takes the road less traveled. The Corvette ZR1 will have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $103,300, including the $850 destination charge. And in the current trend of higher gasoline prices, surprisingly the super Cprvette is able to check in with an estimated EPA fuel economy of 14 mpg city and 20 highway, a very good value for a car that can rocket from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph.

With the motto, “there’s no replacement for displacement”, American performance cars have always stayed true. However, instead of using an even bigger version of the 505hp 7.0-liter LS7 motor from the Z06, GM opted for the same 430hp 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine and supercharged it, increasing output to an awesome 620hp (462 kW) and 595 lb.-ft.of torque (807 Nm). The new supercharged engine, called LS9, makes this sixth generation Corvette the fastest and most powerful production car ever produced by General Motors. In Ed Peper words (the Chevrolet general manager), “The king has returned. The new ZR1 upends the notion of what an American supercar can deliver, with performance that trumps exotics that cost two, three or four times as much – and does so with the driving ease of a daily commuter”.

The Corvette has always been a performance and technology leader, from the fuel-injected racers pioneered by the likes of Zora Arkus-Duntov and the ground-shaking L88 big-blocks of the late 1960s, to the first ZR-1 supercar that was introduced in 1990 and the track-dominating C5R and C6R racecars. The new ZR1 is the culmination of that legacy, delivering an uncompromising balance of performance and driving comfort that exotics costing two, three or four times as much, cannot match.
